The Vega Baja Municipal Recycling Program

Supported by Puerto Rico Eco Park, began expanding in the city of Vega Baja in 2015 and has continued to grow ever since. The program aims to promote recycling, reduce waste in landfills, and educate the community about environmental responsibility.

Direct Impact on the Community

As part of the initiative, over 20,000 containers were distributed to households in the main neighborhoods and urbanizations of Vega Baja. These containers were provided to make household recycling easier, allowing residents to separate recyclable materials and directly contribute to reducing waste in landfills.

Environmental Education and Awareness

In addition to container distribution, the program has played a key role in environmental education for the community. Through workshops, talks, and awareness campaigns, Puerto Rico Eco Park has worked closely with the municipality to teach residents about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. This education not only promotes more sustainable practices but also fosters a cultural shift towards shared responsibility in managing natural resources.
